Making Do at Artzines
3rd to 11th of June, dieschönestadt gallery

If your are based on Germany or maybe around Halle this weekend don't miss the Artzines' exhibition and lectures. You can check our new issue and also discover many interesting artzines.

From the organisers: "In this exhibition we explore artzines and their aesthetic and political dimension, when looked at as motivation for self-publishing and their production process as do-it-yourself or low-budget products. Artzines go beyond the established business or perception of art. They radicalize positions on art in many ways by creating hopes and expressing critique and are themselves intersections of actual artistic practice."

Making Do in Venice at The Book Affair
2-3 June 2011

Making Do will participate in The Book Affair, Venice, 2 — 3 June 2011.
Come and say hello, we will be sharing a stand with AND publishing as well as present our publication and activities.

The Book Affair - Venice, 2 - 3 June 2011

Automatic Books presents The Book Affair, the two days of independent art publishers fair that will take place in Venice on June 2nd and 3rd, in the occasion of the press preview days of the 54th Venice Art Biennal.

The Book Affair gathers together some of today’s most interesting independent publishing projects, with the aim to open a new public discussion on the book as a mean of research and artistic production.

In the last years, we have witnessed the flourishing of independent publishing projects, and seen a network of new editors be born, followed by new types of libraries specialized in this market niche and subsequently by a specialized network of distributors. For this reason, The Book Affair includes a series of public lectures and conferences whose aim is to investigate the reasons why this new editorial nouvelle vague has exploded and which scenarios we ought to expect for its future developments. Automatic Books, is the independent publishing house run by Tankboys, Elena Xausa and Tommaso Speretta.

More than 40 publishers all over the world will take place to The Book Affair, whose new books released and projects realized will be subjects of daily discussions and presentations. For the detailed list of publishers and program of events, please visit:

Making Do at The Old Lookout Gallery Broadstairs
14-15, 21 - 22 May 2011

Making Do will spend the next two weekends at The Old Lookout Gallery creating and producing a publication in collaboration with the community at Broadstairs.

Following from our latest issue, Dialogues form out of this world, we aim to further explore the limits of authorship (shared, open source) and the results of collective processes within creative production.

Making Do will relocate at The Old Lookout Gallery to produce a publication in collaboration with, the invited members of the community as well as passer bys and visitors to the gallery space.

We are inviting the community of Broadstairs to participate in the content and production of this publication: ideas on content, articles, photographs, personal and collective histories, news, illustrations as well as active production during the making i.e. editing, design, layout etc.

All the editorial processes and decisions will be constantly displayed in the gallery space. It will be an open office where visitors can come and have a chat, participate in group discussions, bring their stories and points of view.

This is an opportunity to expose the usually hidden processes of creating a publication while at the same time challenge them by opening them up to collaborations.

A library of independent publications as well as books on local history will be on display during the process.
